Legal Aid

Legal aid is granted under terms prescribed by law to persons who cannot pay all the expenses of a case without difficulties, considering their income and resources as well as their obligations to provide support and the other factors bearing on their financial position.

If you are given legal aid, it relieves you from paying the expenses of your own court proceedings (official-record costs, witness' fees up to a specified limit, etc.). Legal aid may also be granted so that you are responsible for part of your court costs.

In a criminal matter, legal aid can be given at the pretrial investigation stage, regardless of whether the matter is referred to a court. Legal aid may also be granted for matters that never go to court.

We clarify at your initial consultation whether full or partial legal aid is available for your case.
